If you chose the Something else option in the installer click on the drive you are installing to sda(?)Ĭlick new partition table - this wipes the drive. This wipes the drive to unallocated space.

How to reformat hard drive encryption linux mint how to#
I am *guessing* the issue is that linux doesn't let me just do a clean install over encrypted partitions, but I have no idea how to undo the encryption to do the reinstall.įrom Gparted select drive from drop down menu on right then select Device>Create Partition Table then click Apply on the popup. I don't know if it helps, but when I click the lock icon it shows this. I also did a diagnostic tests when I booted up, and no errors came up. I did a reinstall of the USB linux but that didn't help. with the encrypted partition (sda5) still there.

Then, I rebooted and GParted went back to showing things as it was before i.e. However, GParted showed that I had successfully deleted and increased sda1. I deleted everything except for sda1, but it still didn't work. GParted doesn't let me do that, but I was able to reformat the encrypted portion through "Disks". I'm not sure if you do need to decrypt it first? Would have thought deleting the partitions would see to that. I tried to reformat and reinstall on sda1 but got this error instead ĭaveinuk wrote:I know little of encrypted discs but can you delete both those partitions from the live USB/DVD with partition manager? Here are some images that I think might be helpful: I tried reading online but there is not much help with it. I don't really know how to change partitions to perform the reinstall, so I am stuck. I tried reinstalling Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon, but I wasn't able to do that either. I used the live cd to do a boot repair, but that didn't help either. I tried to install python using the command line interface, and tried to do many other fixes (like reinstall mintsystem, upgrading/updating, disk checking, etc) that i read online to repair it, but nothing worked. Needless to say, everything went missing and once I restarted, I couldn't get back in. I couldn't get it to work so I decided to remove and reinstall. I wanted to install python to run a script, and I realized I already had it on linux. I made a really stupid mistake last night (newbie here).
